Restoring a backup
Put your server back
Restore a backup onto the server it came from, or copy it onto another server you manage. You always see what will change before anything happens.
How to restore
- 1
Open the backup
Go to Backups and press Restore on the one you want. - 2
Pick where it goes
Choose the same server, or another server where you have Manage Server and the GuildVault bot is added. - 3
Choose what to restore
Tick the parts you want — roles, channels, emoji, settings, and any extras the backup contains. - 4
Check the changes and confirm
You'll see what will be created, updated and (if you chose it) deleted. Nothing runs until you confirm. - 5
Read the report
When it finishes, the report lists everything that worked and names anything Discord refused, with the reason.
Compare before you restore
Every backup can be compared with the live server or with an older backup. Added, removed and changed items are color-coded, so you know exactly what a restore will touch.
Restoring onto another server
Restoring onto the original server is included on every plan. Copying a backup onto a different server is unlimited on Premium; Free includes 1 and Basic includes 15. Member roles are skipped on another server, since the members are different people.
Deleting extras is your choice
By default a restore only creates and updates. If you turn on Delete extras, channels and roles on the target that aren't in the backup are removed. They're listed for you to check before you confirm.
The order things are restored in
GuildVault restores in a fixed order so everything connects properly — for example, channels need their categories, and permissions need their roles:
- 1Roles
- 2Emoji
- 3Categories
- 4Channels
- 5Permission overwrites
- 6Server settings, icon and banner
Then any extras you selected: stickers, webhooks, auto-mod rules, events, soundboard, onboarding and welcome screen, pinned and recent messages, member roles (same server only) and finally bans.
How long it takes
- It depends on the size of the server and how much you selected.
- Large servers can take several minutes — Discord limits how fast any bot can make changes.
- The progress bar shows each step as it happens, and the report appears when it's done.
